Christown Spectrum Shopping Center in Phoenix, Arizona celebrated a psychedelic 55th Anniversary Celebration on September 24. Guests started lining up at 10 a.m. for 94.5 KOOL FM’s ticket giveaway to The Wildlife World Zoo, Aquarium & Safari Park.
The first 55 people that visited the GIANT anniversary balloon cake
received a pair of tickets to this favorite local attraction.
The theme of the day was “feeling groovy” as the shopping center
filled with mod fashion shows, “far out” arts and crafts, “flower power”
balloon artists and face painters, hula hoop contests, balloon twisting
classes, and pixel painting. Classic ‘60s Volkswagen Beetles and vans
were on display throughout the center. A huge anniversary balloon cake
creation soaring 13 feet tall by 10 feet wide set the stage for the
celebration. Guests danced the afternoon away with live ‘60s music by
local Valley favorite The RAVE.
Christown retailers and restaurants offered special sales during the event for shoppers to enjoy. Harkins Theaters also joined in the festivities with its mascot giving out free merchandise.
Christown Spectrum is a landmark in the area, as it was Arizona’s
first enclosed and air-conditioned mall when it opened in 1961. A new
historical retrospective with photos of the mall through the years were on display for shoppers’ viewing pleasure. These “mural walls” have been a big hit since their installation in August.
The 55th Anniversary fun continues! Guests can still to enter to win a $500 gift card to one of three Valley Classic Hotels and Resorts, two tickets to see the legendary Ringo Starr & His All Starr Band, and four tickets to 1964 The Tribute. The contest continues through October 31, 2016.
